Illustration Project
For this project from my ‘Image & Type’ class, we were required to choose a poem and create an illustrated cover with handmade type, and an interior spread to house the poem and a second illustration.
These first images here were my initial drafts for a Portuguese poem by Manuel Bandeira called The Star in Portuguese: A Estrela. It's about a lonely man that looks up at the lonely star in the sky and wonders why it's so far away. Throughout the poem, he realizes that no matter how far away they are, they are never alone because they will always have each other, which I find a beautiful metaphor for life.
Final Illustration:
For my final draft, I decided to create an illustration that is a children's book style because it has been a dream of mine to illustrate a children's book. I saw this as a great opportunity to practice my skills. The whole process took many hours and everything is done from scratch!
