Social Justice Project
In my Typographic Practice class, we chose a certain social justice movement to focus on for our projects and create hand-done type with two words that represent our movement. Being a part of the LGBTQ+ community, I chose the gay rights movement and felt that two words that stress the goals and community were equality and love. I felt that equality and love are two words that most often work hand-in-hand with each other. Equality creates love, therefore I wanted the words to be connected in some way, as seen in my designs. From there, we added our hand-done type with a description of our movement and its goals and timeline, along with important figures and dates that were key to its history, to create a social justice poster. Here, I went through many iterations and decided on these designs where the words connect and the lines in the first two actually create an equal sign to give a visual and literal meaning to the poster.
EQUALITY. LOVE. COMMUNITY.
